ARNHEMLAND BARRAMUNDI NATURE LODGE

Some Great Fish Photos

lodge
Our exclusive Lodge overlooks the Tomkinson River Valley.

Arnhemland is located on the far north coast of Australia's Northern Territory. This area is the largest and most remote Aboriginal land reserve in the country. The Lodge is located on the coast of this reserve, near the Aboriginal community of Maningrida, which is approximately 500 kilometres (60 minutes flight) to the north east of Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory.

This remote and exclusive area offers outstanding barramundi and sportfishing safaris from March - Dec. In an arrangement with the Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, you will have unfettered exclusive access to 5 pristine Arnhemland rivers (the Liverpool, Tomkinson, Cadell, Bligth, Goomadeer Rivers), several coastal creeks and estuaries, and magnificent inland lagoons.

cabin
Our safari cabins are in tune with the environment.

You will primarily target the famous barramundi but you will most likely encounter a number of other saltwater species such as threadfin and blue salmon, mangrove jack, golden snapper, coral trout, queenfish, Spanish mackerel, long tail tuna, giant trevally and cobia. There are also opportunities for freshwater lagoon fishing for barramundi, tarpon and saratoga.

The barramundi in this diverse area can be caught on both diving and surface lures as well as saltwater flies The surface strike of a barra is something that most anglers will never forget. Barra strike extremely hard and often take to the air as they thrash and charge to get away.

The remote extensive waterways in this Arnhemland region have a well-earned reputation for offering some of the best barramundi fishing in the world and our new upmarket safari lodge is the only operation in this region where entry is restricted to people holding permits issued by the Aboriginal traditional land owners.

The comfortable lodge is situated on an escarpment fringe overlooking the Liverpool and Tomkinson River Valleys. Purpose-designed, large, comfortable and breezy twin-share safari cabins with spacious en suite bathrooms offer a taste of luxury in an otherwise remote and unspoiled environment. The main lodge includes an extensive, fully-contained kitchen/dining area, a bar and tasteful dining decor overlooking the river valley.

dining
A bit of luxury in one of Australia 's most remote wilderness areas.

A full continental breakfast will be provided each morning consisting of fruit juice, fresh fruit, cereal, toast and coffee or tea. A cooked breakfast of eggs and bacon is always available for the hungry angler.

Lunch is usually taken on the water and dinner is a substantial set-menu meal with fish and meat dishes featuring, as well as the local delicacy: the Australian mud crab.

Eco-tours

We are also able to offer a wide range of activities for non-fishing companions including cultural, bird watching and rock art tours. And you must visit the Maningrida Arts and Culture Centre (the Djomi Museum) where you may purchase quality traditional Arnhemland Aboriginal Artwork at rock-bottom prices.
