Bendoroda is a remote river located approximately 1 hour by boat from Popondetta on the North East coast of Papua New Guinea. The rivers in this region are home to healthy populations of the Papuan Black Bass. This fish is a member of the Lutjanid family - so is related to mangrove jack, golden snapper and red emperor - it grows to more than 30 kg, it inhabits the fresh and brackish waters of the palm-fringed tropical rivers of Papua New Guinea and it is the meanest and toughest fish that any barra angler is ever likely to encounter.

Your journey begins in Cairns where you overnight before you depart early on day one and fly to Popondetta via Port Moresby. At Popondetta you are met by your host Dale McCarthy. Dale has been living and working in PNG for over 20 years and is very familiar with the area. He is an outstanding sportfisherman and a specialist black bass angler. Under his guidance you can't miss.

On arrival at Bendoroda River, you are greeted by the friendly Bendoroda villagers in full ceremonial dress hitting drums and singing your welcome.After the welcoming you receive a tour of the Bendoroda Wilderness Lodge. The lodge has been made from natural cane and black palm materials. There will be an opportunity for a quick fish that evening. You will fish from fully-guided customised 5m sportfishers with 50 hp four stroke outboards. You will also have the opportunity for a quick fish on the morning of your departure. The rooms are delightful and are made up daily.
