AUSSIEJUMPER BARRA LURES

The new 75, 100 and 125 mm AussieJumper minnows have all the unique features of their freshwater cousins, but with a thinner, 'barra style' body that will also work on pelagic species.

Evolving from the ever-popular StumpJumper lure range, the new AussieJumper is set to take the saltwater fishing scene by storm.

The StumpJumper lure range has made another leap forward, with the introduction of a new barra/tropical series, known as AussieJumpers.

Sporting a new, slender design, the lures are available in 75 mm, 100 mm and 125 mm sizes, and come in a heap of great barra colours.

Fitted with 3X strong VMC 9626 short shank, size 2 PS trebles and heavy duty split rings, the new AussieJumpers will not only prove effective on barra, but will be dynamite on trevally, kingfish, queenfish, mackerel, mangrove jack, jewfish, flathead and a host of other species as well.

StumpJumpers (and now AussieJumpers) get their name from the ability to 'jump' snags when trolled. Hold the rod slightly towards the bow (it's important that the lure is down among the snags bumping across timber and other obstacles, as this is where the fish live), then as soon as it feels like it's about to dig in, thrown back your arm. The lure's inherent buoyancy will quickly pop it up and out of what would have most likely been an ugly snag-up.

StumpJumpers have long been popular amongst freshwater fishos targeting Murray cod, golden perch and other freshwater species, although they never really received widespread acceptance in saltwater fisheries. Smart anglers were onto them though, and did exceptionally well on everything from barra to black bass, even permit.

The new AussieJumper better fits the public perception of what a saltwater lure should look like - and with all the StumpJumper advantages for which its freshwater cousin has become famous.

Apart from their proven fish-catching and anti-snagging capabilities, one of the greatest pluses of StumpJumper and AussieJumper lures is the snap-lock bib system.

This exclusive bib design allows the lure's action and running depth to be altered just by changing bibs. The same lure can perform many functions and be fished in a range of different ways. What's more, you'll never again have to throw away lures with damaged bibs - simply clip in a new one and keep on fishing!

There's a knack to quickly changing StumpJumper and AussieJumper bibs that will have the lure back in the water in seconds. To change a curved bib, bend it down and pull it out. Flat bibs pull straight out. Inserting another bib is a simple matter of sliding it into the 'smiling mouth' of the lure, then pushing it in until it clicks.

In the AussieJumper range, a bib such as the BA creates a diving lure that will swim to over 3.5 m. Bib BB will take the lure to depths over 5 m, while bib BC is a fast-running bib with a tight action, well suited to trolling for bluewater speedsters.

The bibs used with size 2 StumpJumpers (2B and 2C) are also interchangeable with the 100 and 125 AussieJumpers. The AussieJumper 75 uses these bibs exclusively, with bib 2B sending the lure down to 1.5 m, and bib 2C taking it to depths of 1.5 m plus.

The Aussie 100 and Aussie 125 come with 3 bibs, while the Aussie 75 comes with 2 bibs. Extra bibs are available from StumpJumper and AussieJumper stockists. It's often a good idea to have several types of bibs in the tackle box to cover all scenarios - with just the one lure!

The AussieJumper's action often proves irresistible when trolled past likely looking snags and rock bars in search of barra. Alternatively, the lure can be cast and retrieved in the traditional manner, which is so effective on barra, mangrove jacks and a host of other species.

Offshore, these lures can be trolled for mackerel, tuna, trevally and queenfish. A mix of bibs will allow the same lures to be run at different depths.
