| GAMBLER SUPER STUDS AND SCUM FROGS
The team that brought us products such as Slider, Assassin, Spike-It, Slime-It and Gary Yamamoto to Australia, are continuing the tradition of providing top shelf tackle to Down Under anglers with the Gambler and Scum Frog range.
GAMBLER SUPER STUD One of the legendary companies on the international soft plastics scene, Gambler Lures from Florida USA, is now available in Australia. Gambler has a unique history here, with the first-ever Australian bass fishing tournament being won on a Gambler Ninja Spin spinnerbait. Internationally, Gambler is well known for its Ninja series of lures, but also its Texas and screw-in Florida weights that are the benchmark for gnarly heavy cover structure fishing. The Super Stud is a quality soft jerk bait and the Gambler 5" Super Stud 'fluke' jerk bait soft plastic has been catching snapper since day one of the re-emergence of the east coast Australian soft plastic snapper scene. The Gambler Super Stud has an amazing action and the 5" Super Studs have accounted for snapper in Moreton Bay, reefies out from Cairns, barramundi in the lakes, as well as cobia, Gts and tuna in Weipa. Rig them unweighted with an offset 'Z' bend worm hook or a big fish-proven shad style jig head. Gamblers will work right through the water column, from zig-zagging under the surface to fluttering down near the sea floor. A 14 g jig head will get them down to the bottom in 20 m of water, while 5-7 g jig heads are all that's needed when hopping them up from the bottom in shallower water around 6 m deep. Snapper love Super Studs!
For years the Aussie market has been crying out for this famous range of lures and they're finally here. Keep an eye out for the soon-to-be-released Flapping Shad too. It's described as a cross between a soft plastic swim bait and a buzz bait, and many of Australia's premier sportfish have taken a liking to the prototypes. The Super Studs are the first release, with other models including the Ninjas to follow shortly. The Gambler 5" is available in 9 colours as per the accompanying photograph, plus a Bleeding Bait series has just been designed with Aussie input. SCUM FROG
The world's best-known hollow soft plastic surface lure, the Scum Frog has been updated to give exceptional hook-up and fish-holding properties. Because the body is hollow (just like the venerable Flopy of yesteryear) you get that much talked about 'plop' on the surface that calls bass, saratoga and other surface feeders in from afar. Then, when they bite down on the lure, the body compresses to enable the hooks to take hold - either in the roof of the mouth or around the jaw bone. A full range of colours are available, so whether you like natural frog patterns for fish fooling reality, bright colours so that you can see them disappear into the fish's mouth, or dark colours for after dark work, there's one for every technique. Hook options include Owner hooks on the Tournament Model. Additionally, the updated body designs have improved the across-the-water actions and hookup ratio out of sight. Thus far they've accounted for Murray cod, saratoga, bass, barramundi, trevally plus a few species of tuna just to prove their durability. To get a hookup after a strike in the old days was a bit hit and miss, but nowadays you'll have to take the hooks out to let them go when you get them to the boat. It's more like hit and kiss. Scum Froggin' is fun - boiling, visual, audible, topwater excitement! For Scum Frog trade enquiries, phone (07) 3351 4652.
